Agnesian HealthCare's Safe Sitter workshop is a nationally-recognized babysitting workshop that teaches adolescent babysitters how to handle crises and how to nurture and guide a young adult. Participants of this workshop emerge as more confident, responsible and compassionate teen and adults. Students will receive a manual, back pack and course completion card. This class is for children ages 11 to 14. All students should bring a beverage and snack/lunch or dinner. This is a two-day workshop.

Understanding Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in an individual's muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points. Women are much more likely to develop the disorder than are men, and the risk of fibromyalgia increases with age. Fibromyalgia symptoms often begin after a physical or emotional trauma. Join Donna Thomas, OTR, CKTP, Waupun Memorial Hospital occupational therapist, to learn more about the symptoms and functional changes associated with this disease. Thomas will also discuss treatment options and available resources.

HEARTSAVER AED teaches lay rescuers CPR and use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for adult and child cardiac arrest victims. Students also learn relief of choking in adults and children, infant CPR and relief of choking and child and infant safety. A course completion card is given upon successful completion of a practical and written exam.

Breast Reduction Surgery: What You Need to know

Breast reduction surgery can help with posture, back and neck pain as well as skin irritation. It can also be used to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body. Breast reduction surgery may also help improve an individual’s self-image and self-confidence, as well as their ability to participate in physical activities. Join Richard Schaefer, MD, Agnesian HealthCare plastic surgeon, as he discusses the benefits of breast reduction and how individuals can feel better about themselves and their appearance. Breast reduction surgery is covered by most health insurance.

Afternoon Grief Support Group

Sponsored by Agnesian HealthCare, this afternoon grief support program is designed to help participants cope with the death of a loved one in an informative and supportive group setting. In addition to a general overview of the grieving process, participants will also learn differences in grieving, how to manage their grief, past grief experiences and how to prepare for and face special days such as holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. Other topics to be addressed include spirituality and grieving, how to help others cope with their loss, and the importance of closure – how to go on after saying “good-bye.”
This group meets the third Tuesday of every month.

This exercise regimen is designed to create long, lean muscles while enhancing strength, flexibility and balance, with an emphasis on posture. It can even help alleviate back pain. Family & Friends CPR for Expectant Parents teaches lay rescuers skills in adult, child and infant
CPR and relief of foreign body airway obstruction in the responsive victim. The course presents information about the AHA adult Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults. The course also presents information on the AHA pediatric Chain of Survival, signs of choking in infants and children, prevention of the most common fatal pediatric injuries and reduction in the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. A course “participation card” is given to each participant.

Yoga alleviates stress, aids in healing and helps us reclaim our general sense of well-being. Join Sigrun Columbia-Navis, RN, certified yoga instructor with the Fond du Lac Center for Spirituality and Healing, for an eight-week yoga program designed for the beginner and intermediate yoga student. Students will utilize the techniques learned in Beginning Yoga as well as learn more challenging poses that are held longer to further increase strength, balance and flexibility. Students will learn new relaxation techniques and have the opportunity to sit for meditation at the end of each class. As variations of the basic postures are introduced, individuals will gain a new awareness of body, breath and mind. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a pillow and blanket to each class.

Statistics indicate that one in every three Americans suffer from chronic joint pains or arthritis, and the risk increases with age and is more common among women than men. Arthritis, or join inflammation, can cause pain, swelling and stiffness. Join Michael Mannebach, MD, Fond du Lac Regional Clinic orthopedic surgeon, to learn about the two most common forms of arthritis, how to control arthritic pain, minimize joint damage, know when joint replacement is appropriate and improve or maintain function and quality of life.

HEALTHCARE PROVIDER CPR RENEWAL is for those who hold a current Healthcare Provider CPR certification and need to renew their status. Healthcare providers will review the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device and oxygen), use of an AED and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction in responsive and non-responsive victims. Optional book purchase of $12.

Baby Care Basics

This class provides instruction and demonstration regarding infant care, such as feeding, bathing, navel care, circumcision care and diapering. Mom and support person are welcome to attend. The class covers how to respond to your infant’s cues, signs and symptoms of an ill infant, newborn safety and much more. This class should be completed by the end of the eighth month of pregnancy.
