What does a laboratory professional do?

April 20-26, 2014 is recognized as National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week.  Consultants Laboratory, a member of Agnesian HealthCare, recognizes our associates that each day, 24 hours a day, bring their passion of laboratory medicine to our physicians, providers, patients, residents, and communities.

The laboratory is often an “unseen” part of healthcare but is very important in the total care of a patient. In fact, more than 70% of medical decisions made by providers are based on laboratory findings! An often called “simple” blood test involves complexity of skill, education, advanced instrumentation, quality control, investigation, timeliness, and most of all teamwork with all the other partners in healthcare.

Laboratorians are known for their quiet nature and attention to details.  Our educational focus is on the internal workings of our cells, tissues, blood and fluids giving physicians and providers another piece of the clinical picture of illness, or as important, wellness. Our focus is on ensuring our processes produce accurate results, while also meeting the expectations of great service.

In addition to the testing side, our laboratory has a great team of support professionals assisting before the collection, during and after the testing process.  Each has an important part in the complex and fascinating world of laboratory medicine.
