Treffert Academy’s children and belonging

At the Treffert Academy, our philosophy is one of inclusion, compassion, play, and helping our children find their way to becoming resilient and kind adults.

On a daily basis, however, we are reminded that the journey they are on is moment by moment not year by year.  We are  reminded of that through their embrace of one another.

Imagine a young child with few words to open the door to friendship and the academy kids who know it doesn’t always take words to open a door-it can be a simple moment of shared activity. The transformation of a child as a bystander to a child joining in to help push the merry-go-round to speed up the ride for her friends brings giggles all around.

Imagine a child whose body needs to move when sitting is the requested activity. As this child finds himself moving away from his group he becomes part of it again when his friends open their hands to him and begin  the song of Ring Around the Rosie.

These acts of play are life changing for the children and adults who come together at the Treffert Academy.
