These dedicated professionals work quietly behind the scenes to ensure that the translation needs of our patients and their families are being met 365 days a week, 24 hours a day. They work one-on-one with patients – available during each step of the health care process.

“Our team advocates for our patients to provide our health care providers the information they need so they can make the best medical decisions,” says Alicia Arias-Madrigal, CMI, Spanish, Interpreter Services coordinator. “This can include hospital admissions, medical condition examinations, surgical consultations and more.”

Interpreting enables smooth communication. “With interpreting, communication is made easier between either the patient or the patient’s family and the providers,” Arias-Madrigal explains. “It helps to increase our patients’ comfort level and reduces their stress.”

Agnesian HealthCare services are offered free of charge. Many departments employ bilingual speaking providers and nursing staff in varying languages. Spanish interpreters are also available during clinic hours to assist patients/staff.

Language Line by telephone or video is the first resource for language translation. It’s accessible within seconds and offers staff professional interpreters in more than 240 languages including American Sign Language (with video relay).

While on-site professional interpreters are available by appointment to assist patients during their scheduled appointments, procedures and surgeries, they can also:

• Make, cancel, reschedule appointments

• Help facilitate referrals

• Assist with billing and financial questions assistance

• Help identify community resource help
